Lahesh Cave Trek is an ideal trekking route for adventurers who wish to explore beyond an easy one day trek to Triund. The trail to Lahesh caves is one of the most beautiful in the Himalayas. It offers an enthralling experience with breathtaking panoramic views of the Dhauladhars.
Lahesh Cave Trek is moderate when it comes to complexity. Therefore, it can be pursued by beginners who are willing to bend their backs in preparation. All that training would come through when making strides would be a requirement along with the tough phases of the trek. In the current blog, I will share with you my journey to the magnificent caves. I will also share with you the snags I had to face in the pursuit of this adventure.
Time : 9:30 am
Day 1: Mcleodganj - Triund (2900m) - 9Km
It is a beautiful walk through mixed forests of the deodar, oak and rhododendron. Triund is situated on a ridge with a beautiful view of whole Kangra valley on one side and Dhauladhar mountain range on the other. Overnight stay in a tents.
Time : 8:30 am
Day 02: Truind - Snow Line - Lahas Cave (3700m.) Triund.
This is perhaps one of the most challenging days of the trek. After breakfast we walk further up to Lahas cave which is a temporary shepherd campsite in the summer, situated at the tip of a small glacier. There will be an opportunity to walk on the glacier to reach Lhes Cave, this is quite strenuous but well worth the effort. Lhes Cave is used as an overnight shelter by the shepherds travelling over the mountain with their sheep. We return to Triund for the overnight stay.
Time : 8:30 am
Day 03: Triund - Mcleodganj
Take the same route on the way back or follow the grassy ridge which will lead to Bhagsu Nag Temple, after crossing a small waterfall on the way. Mcleodganj is only 1.5 Km from the Bhagsu Nag by road.
