A SHORT TREK. A BIG CHANGE OF SCENERY.

Two days in the hills.
A little room to breathe.

The Triund Trek from McLeod Ganj takes you through oak, deodar and rhododendron forest to an open ridge beneath the Dhauladhar mountains. Look one way for the peaks, the other for the Kangra Valley.

This guided two-day itinerary gives you time for the climb, an overnight camping experience and the walk back. It suits active first-time trekkers and visitors looking for a short Himalayan escape near Dharamshala. Expect a sustained uphill walk rather than a flat nature stroll.

Your guide will confirm the meeting point, start time and campsite arrangements before departure. The route and overnight location depend on weather, trail access and the permissions in place for your dates.

The Triund Trek itinerary.

01

DAY ONE · APPROX. 9 KM · 4–5 HOURS

McLeod Ganj to Triund

Meet your guide at the agreed starting point and talk through the route before setting off. The published itinerary travels through Dharamkot and the Gallu Devi Temple area, then follows forest paths towards Triund.

Take breaks as the trail climbs and the valley views open up. Near the ridge, the terrain becomes more exposed and the final ascent asks a little more of your legs. Arrive with time to settle into camp and enjoy the mountain setting before dinner.

ARRIVE READY FOR THE TRAIL

Planning your Triund Trek.

When to go

March to June and September to November are the planning windows listed for this trek. Conditions still vary from day to day. Rain can make paths slippery, and winter snow can change access and walking times. Check the forecast and the guide’s route advice before choosing your dates.

Fitness and difficulty

Triund is commonly described as an easy-to-moderate trek, but the climb is sustained and includes steeper stretches. You should be comfortable walking uphill for several hours with your daypack. Tell us about your experience and pace so we can help you choose between the overnight itinerary and a suitable shorter walk.

What to carry

Bring comfortable trekking footwear, a small backpack, warm layers, rain protection, a refillable water bottle, sun protection and a headtorch. Keep any personal medication accessible. Ask for the packing list for your season; tents and sleeping equipment are included in the listed overnight package.

Getting to the starting point

Plan to reach McLeod Ganj before the agreed departure time. Share your arrival details with us so we can confirm the exact meeting point. Transport to and from the trek start is excluded from the listed price, and any pickup should be arranged in advance.

Leave the ridge as you found it.

Carry your waste back, refill where advised by your guide, stay on the trail and respect campsite rules. Keep noise low and give other walkers room to enjoy the mountains.
