Kareri Lake Trek

Covering a total distance of approximately 26 kilometers, this easy to moderate trek takes you through dense pine forests, traditional Himachali villages like Kareri, and riverside campsites like Rioti. The trail gradually ascends to a maximum altitude of 2,934 meters at the beautiful alpine Kareri Lake, set against the backdrop of the majestic Dhauladhar mountain range. With crisp mountain air, clear glacier-fed streams, and panoramic Himalayan views, this trek is ideal for beginners and nature lovers looking for a peaceful escape into the wilderness. Day 01

Dharamsala – Kareri Village – Rioti Campsite

  • Altitude: 1,800m to 2,400m

  • Trek Distance: 9 km / 5–6 hours

  • Highlights:

    • Drive from Dharamkot to Kareri village (optional)

    • Trek begins through pine and oak forest

    • Cross wooden bridges, streams, and shepherd trails

    • Reach Rioti – scenic campsite beside the stream

Day 02

Rioti – Kareri Lake – Rioti

  • Altitude: 2,400m to 2,934m

  • Trek Distance: 12 km round trip / 6–7 hours

  • Highlights:

    • Early morning trek to the pristine Kareri Lake

    • Enjoy panoramic views of snow-covered peaks

    • Visit the temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and Shakti

    • Spend time by the lakeside and descend back to Rioti

Rioti – Kareri Village – Dharamsala

  • Trek Distance: 5–6 km / 3–4 hours
