Day 01

A Day hike to Kareri Village

If you are bored of city life and want to experience a quick look into a life of local people living in village then it is an ideal trek for you. We start our drive from Mcleod ganj via cab or jeep and reach Bernad village from where we start our trek.

On reaching the Bernad village we get on the foot and start walking thru the village the road is not well defined and is covered with big trees the village is quite picturesque. There are numerous birds that can be found in this region and there is variety of flora thru out the trek too.

We reach Ghera which is the last village before we reach Kareri Village and you can pick some snacks if you want for your hike as there will be no shops in between. It takes approximately 2-3 hrs to reach Kareri Village from here and the trail is pretty straight forward. We cross the massive bridge from Ghera and take the trail going up the hill and the trail is fairly tiresome at some stretches. Kareri Village is about 3 km from Ghera and one has to cross river to reach Kareri.

Once we reach Kareri we stop here for lunch near the water stream and click some amazing pics while playing in the water. Only thing that we need to be cautious about is not to get bit by the poisonous shrub that is locally known as Bichu buti which is there thru out the trek though its antidote is also available near the shrub itself. After spending some precious time in the Kareri Village we are ready to walk back to Bernad to catch the cab back to Mcleod ganj.

We take a different route back to Bernad which is more adventurous as it is a mix and match of unpaved road, small bridges and the route is covered with dense pine trees and some most beautiful flowers that you will only find here. We also get to witness some of the most beautiful villages and see local people working in their farms. On reaching Bernad our cabs are ready to drive us back to Mcleodganj with tired feet but some awesome memories which cannot be forgotten ever.
